Rest and Future Goals

This may sound like blasphemy and sacrilege, but I didn’t run last weekend. In fact, I haven’t run in 5 days! Before you flame me endlessly, I can explain! The last month has been rough. I’ve been pushing over 50km a week! My 8k run last Wednesday was agonizingly painful. This is a feeling I’ve had before. The first time I had this was last summer at the same time for similar reasons. I made the mistake of running through it last summer and had a nagging injury that lasted months. Interesting Nutritional Notions

A holistic nutritionist spoke at our Running Room Clinic last night. She has interesting notion about nutrition which I think makes some really good sense. She calls herself ‘holistic’ because she bases her practice on what our grandparents would have eaten. I think that’s very logical, because even 50 years ago, food much less processed, contained less additives, and many of our grandparents lived very long and healthy lives. She also acknowledged that even natural foods we eat today have less nutritional content because local soils are becoming nutrient deprived. Mid-Season Pains

I just re-read a post I made months ago when there was 116 days left until the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon. Now there are only 46 days left. It’s not a lot of time, but more than enough time to still make progress. I’ve been slightly disappointed with my last two races which were slightly behind my previous personal bests. My physical statistics (body fat percent, resting heart rate, flexibility) are also not at the level I’d like.
