Post-Race Recovery
It’s been a couple of days since I ran my first marathon. I’m feeling almost human again. I felt like running yesterday, but I think I’ll have some sense and take it easy some more. I’ve had some time to gage the toll on my body. My abs hurt a lot, but I talked with Sandra, a fellow runner from my local Running Room who also did the Marathon and she thinks it’s because we were breathing hard for 4.5 hours. That makes sense. Taper Madness and Planning Ahead
I am farily certain I am going through taper madness. It is a well documented condition that involves phantom pains, skittishness, hunger, doubt and binge spending. I swear that my body suspects what I am going to do to it this Sunday. I am so much hungrier than usual, and I’m eating SO much. I have so much energy that I’m randomly breaking into dance. And this phantom pain in my right hamstring goes from a tinge to unbearable agony and back all the time with no reason. “they shall run and not be weary…”
After running the Mercedez-Benz Oakville 10k, I noticed that the name of the passage “Isaiah 40:31” was printed on his hoodie. Later, I learned that gentleman was the winner of the race. I was curious what Bible verse would be of such interest to a runner. But those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint There are a lot of translations. This is the NRSV translation of Isaiah 40:31. Just thought I’d share this interesting observance.
