Ersatz Concern For Readers

This is a generic message like the statements from every other corporation that has your email address that wants to continue getting your business. It is filled with the feel-good corporate jargon and gobbledygook you have come to expect at this time.

During this unprecedented time in our history, the team at Technical RunNerd wanted to reach out to you to let you know what we are doing to support you and our fellow Canadians as we manage through COVID-19… from the safety of the other side of a computer screen.

First and foremost, as valued readers, we (as in the synergistic quasi-corporate “we”, it’s really just me, one dude) wanted to inform you about some of the enhanced safety measures that we are taking at Technical RunNerd in response to evolving public health concerns about coronavirus  (COVID-19). Guided by recommendations made by relevant public health authorities, our dedicated operations team has been working closely with all of divisions. In addition, we are taking added precautions during this time. The safety and security readers, communities, and writing team are of paramount importance. We are taking all appropriate measures to ensure our website does not spread the coronavirus, even though we’re pretty sure you can’t get the coronavirus from looking at a website.

In abundance of precaution we have also made the decision to temporarily close sales of Technical RunNerd brand products (originally announced April 1, 2018). The “Sophie’s Choice” branded products will also not be released until further notice.

Our many channels (well, just Facebook, Instagram, and this blog) will continue to bring you the “quality” content you can expect. We will continue to serve you in many ways; with uplifting and semi-relevant posts, recipes, race reports, and occasionally irreverent humour, observations, and/or distractions. It is unclear if this will help with COVID-19 containment efforts, but giving you things to do while in self-imposed quarantine seems like a good thing!

On our website, we remain focused on cleanliness. We pledge to only use only sterilized website cookies, gluten-free, dairy-free, and organic when possible. In addition to industry-leading website hygiene standards, we have increased the frequency of many cleaning efforts including compressing images, organizing old posts, and clearing the browser cache.

In the unlikely event of contagion from viewing our website, you should contact our claims department. However, much like travel company hotlines, we are experiencing a higher than normal volume of calls, so you may wait hours to talk to someone, so don’t bother.

We are continuing to monitor developments closely and are following the guidance of public health authorities with regards to Social Distancing for websites (if there is any guidance…). As the situation changes, we will update our procedures and keep you informed throughout this pandemic. Or, you could continue getting information from professional, reputable websites.
