Patience

I find it incredibly ironic that patience can be so valuable in a sport predicated on speed. The big change I made this season was to follow the recommended training zones. Usually I struggle to follow the rest of the group, even if that means running way too fast. Leading the clinic gave me the opportunity to run well below my aerobic threshold while still running with people. Even when they sped up, I fell back so that I wouldn’t sacrifice my workout. Stupid Pain, Stupid CrossFit

Several weeks ago, I invited someone from a local CrossFit studio to speak for our half-marathon’s ‘Strength Training’ session. I strongly regret that. He correctly mentioned that high intensity workouts can give you rapid benefits, but missed the warnings that high intensity, high impact workouts are very dangerous. Before he left, he challenged me to do one of his workouts, and if I did he would do one of mine. I should have left it alone, but the challenge was too tempting. Post-Race Recovery

It’s been a couple of days since I ran my first marathon. I’m feeling almost human again. I felt like running yesterday, but I think I’ll have some sense and take it easy some more. I’ve had some time to gage the toll on my body. My abs hurt a lot, but I talked with Sandra, a fellow runner from my local Running Room who also did the Marathon and she thinks it’s because we were breathing hard for 4.5 hours. That makes sense.
