Summer 2015 Training Plan: Early Quality

The Foundation and Injury Prevention Phase of my summer 2015 training just kind of flew by! the 5 runs a week looked really intimidating, especially since a lot of them would be for #5amRunClub. But, I got through most of it! I’m pleasantly surprised by how strong I feel after this base re-building phase. Up next is the Early Quality phase of the program which marked by the introduction of interval work. This period also has a modest increase in mileage. 5-Year Runniversary

Today is my 5-year Runniversary, or the 5th year anniversary of when I started to run. My first day really running was Tuesday, June 8, 2010, but I still remember it like it was yesterday: I had recently finished my part-time masters degree, I was finally getting out of school, I had just finished running a big event, and got out of a relationship. I had started exercising in December 2008 and was very proud of the gains I had made. But a friend challenged me to run a half-marathon. As I said in my season reflection, I though a lot about how my penultimate race didn’t go so well. This article from Runner’s World about Three Ways to Cope with a a Bad Race was very helpful to read. I think I’ve effectively dissected the disaster, I’ve made a new plan and I’m already working towards doing better in a few months. It was odd taking time off from running and training in general for the first part of this month. I found it hard to not run on such beautiful days. But I know it was for the best.
