Training Update
As you might imagine, my “Grand Plan” hasn’t been materializing the way I would have liked. There are some good and bad in there, and I think I’m learning to accept that. I was swimming twice a week for a few weeks. I was able to do 2000 metres in about 50 minutes. I’m pretty happy about that. However, when I entered that data into my Dailymile account, it estimates I only burned 600 calories in that hour. When running, I burn double or triple that rate! My Grand Plan!
I re-ready my post from the beginning of this summer 2011 race season where I set my goals and planned the season out. Obviously, things did not go as I had planned last season: My cross-training fell off the map, my weight increased and my times for all distances got worse! Taper Madness and Pre-Race Panic!
I’m running a marathon in less than a week! This won’t be a surprise to my body. I’m well aware and in the midst of tapering. And, like before the Mississauga Marathon last May, I’m experiencing taper madness: The phantom pains, the anxiety of possibly under-training and the damage to my credit card. First, the credit card damage: I’ve already donated a bunch of money to my University’s alumni association, bought tickets to an Avril Lavine concert, bought a low flow toilet, and paid for several months on an online dating site.
