Stupid Pain, Stupid CrossFit

Several weeks ago, I invited someone from a local CrossFit studio to speak for our half-marathon’s ‘Strength Training’ session. I strongly regret that. He correctly mentioned that high intensity workouts can give you rapid benefits, but missed the warnings that high intensity, high impact workouts are very dangerous. Before he left, he challenged me to do one of his workouts, and if I did he would do one of mine. I should have left it alone, but the challenge was too tempting. Training Update

As you might imagine, my “Grand Plan” hasn’t been materializing the way I would have liked. There are some good and bad in there, and I think I’m learning to accept that. I was swimming twice a week for a few weeks. I was able to do 2000 metres in about 50 minutes. I’m pretty happy about that. However, when I entered that data into my Dailymile account, it estimates I only burned 600 calories in that hour. When running, I burn double or triple that rate! Inspiration/Perspiration

I had an interesting experience running a little 7k last night. It was 34 degrees Celsius at 7pm! And it felt like 41ÂșC with the humidex. It almost felt like running through something thick. Someone once told me that the sweat on your shirt is a measure of the effort when running. For example, if the sweat stain under your neck is 4 inches down means you worked harder than a person who had a sweat stain that only went 2 inches down.
