Valley Inn Road – Recon Mission
On Saturday, March 17, I ran the infamous “Valley Inn Road” in Hamilton. This hill has about 25 meters of rise and it’s famous because it comes at around the 26th kilometer of the Around The Bay 30k Road Race. Hundred Up Challenge!
I’m finally jumping on the bandwagon and trying the “Hundred Up Challenge.” If you haven’t heard of this, you must be living under some sort of rock. It has been all over the online running community, especially since Christoper McDougall gave it a raving review. The concept is pretty simple: Repeat an exercise where you lift each leg 50 times so that it’s parallel to the ground. Patience
I find it incredibly ironic that patience can be so valuable in a sport predicated on speed. The big change I made this season was to follow the recommended training zones. Usually I struggle to follow the rest of the group, even if that means running way too fast. Leading the clinic gave me the opportunity to run well below my aerobic threshold while still running with people. Even when they sped up, I fell back so that I wouldn’t sacrifice my workout.
