Detraining Guilt
It’s been over a week since my back-to-back marathons and I’m feeling very guilty. I’m guilty of enjoying my detraining too much! The wear on my body after the two full marathons was much worse than what I have experienced in the past. Among other extreme pains, I was unable to use my right hip flexor for over a day. I had to lift my right leg with my arm to get into my car! Classic Overtrain
Recently, I demonstrated exactly what happens when overtraining. I got the moodiness, lack of performance and illness in spades! It’s no mystery why I wound up in this situation: Work had been unusually difficult for the last month. I’m used to being out of the office a day or two a week with short site visits and walking around construction sites. Over this month I was out 3-4 times a week, in really hot weather wearing very hot safety gear and heavy steel toe-boots. One day involved walking all over a carhouse checking systems. Don’t Believe I Got Injured…
I don’t believe it, but I am injured. After a set of running drills and hills on Tuesday night, I felt some soreness in the bottom of my left foot. I suspected it was the early stages of plantar fasciitis so I did my usual foot stretches and massage. When I woke the next morning, the top of my left foot had seized. It was uncomfortable to even walk! In retrospect, while doing length swimming on Monday, I did quite a few turns pushing off the wall with only my left foot instead of both.
